Tooth decay can happen when plaque is left on teeth and produces acids, causing damage to enamel and progressively eating away at the rest of the tooth.
When tooth decay is discovered during your check-ups, it can be repaired with a filling.
If tooth decay is left untreated, it can spread through to the nerve of the tooth, resulting in a toothache. Once it reaches this stage, a Root Canal Treatment is needed.
There are a number of simple things you can do to prevent tooth decay:
Brush your teeth twice daily for at least two minutes.
Use a fluoridated toothpaste to strengthen enamel.
Floss between your teeth daily.
Reduce the amount of sugar in your diet.
Limit between-meal snacking.
